Office of Investigations

In support of the overall mission and objectives of the OIG, the Office of Investigations works to investigate allegations and complaints involving fraud, waste, and abuse in Metro operations, programs, and activities. Investigative matters usually include the following categories:

  • Alleged/possible false claims (Metro vendors/contractors).
  • Alleged ethics violations (both employees and managers).
  • Potential criminal matters.
  • Alleged mismanagement in various Metro programs, operational units, or activities.
  • Alleged procurement irregularities (vendors and/or Metro personnel).
  • Alleged employee misconduct (such as theft or misuse of Metro resources).

Office of Audits

In support of the OIG’s mission, the Office of Audits is responsible for evaluating the adequacy of policies and procedures, testing to ensure that internal controls are functioning as intended, and recommending corrective actions so that Metro assets are better protected against fraud, waste, and abuse. OIG auditors adhere to professional auditing standards as promulgated in the Government Auditing Standards published by the Controller General of the United States.

Audits usually cover one or more of the following issues:

  • Are internal controls and information systems adequate to protect Metro assets and funds against fraud, waste, and abuse?
  • Are Metro programs operating effectively and efficiently?
  • Are programs meeting Metro objectives and goals?
  • Are financial and other management data accurate and complete?
